A Medicare plan is a Federal health insurance program that is specifically designated for people who are 65 years of age and older, and people with disabilities. If you are 65 years of age and are eligible for social security and/or railroad retirement benefits, then both you and your spouse automatically qualify. The plan is made up of two main parts, Part A and Part B.

Part B: Supplementary medical with a monthly premium.

  • Medicare's Part B helps to cover Doctors' services, outpatient hospital services, and other medical services not covered by Part A, such as home healthcare. (Monthly Premium: $58.70/month in 2003)

Although comprised of many differing types of health plans, can be more or less broken down into two sects, the original Medicare plan and the Medicare + choice plan. Each of these types of Medicare plan is explained further throughout the site.
